Janice Huff

Janice Huff is the weekday meteorologist for NewsChannel 4 in New York, delivering weather reports for the station’s Live at Five and NewsChannel 4 at 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts. Huff came to NewsChannel 4 from KRON-TV, the NBC affiliate in San Francisco. She joined KRON in 1990 as meteorologist on the 6 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. newscasts and in April 1991 became the primary on-air meteorologist for the station’s 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts. Throughout her career, Huff has been popular for her community-related feature reports including, Bay Area’s Best Bets at KRON. While at KRON, Huff was named a Clean Air Hero by the American Lung Association for her work in promoting cleaner air and healthier lungs. In 1992, Huff introduced the nationally syndicated Weather School program to the Bay Area, which promotes science education with an emphasis on meteorology. Huff joined NBC 4 in January 1995 as meteorologist for the weekend editions of Today in New York. and NewsChannel 4 at 6 and 11 p.m. She added Live at Five to her forecasting duties in January 2000. In addition, Huff is meteorologist for NBC’s Saturday edition of Today and the host of Wednesday’s Child, a weekly adoption feature that airs Wednesdays during Live at Five and again on Sunday Today in New York. She also delivered weekday weather forecasts for MSNBC’s The News with Brian Williams. A member of the American Meteorological Society, the National Association of Black Journalists, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Huff has received numerous honors and awards. For community outreach, she is the recipient of KDSA’s Crystal Apple Award; the 2000 YMCA Champion For Youth Award and the City of Hope’s Spirit of Life award for her professional and personal example to New York City youth. Her professional awards include Bronx Community College’s 1995 Kaleidoscope Award for excellence in television meteorology, the St. Louis Emmy Award for Best Weathercaster (1988) and, the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval for Television Weather-casting in 1985. Janice Huff is married and resides in New Jersey. She grew up in Columbia, South Carolina, and graduated from Eau Claire High School with honors, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Secretary of the Student Council, Varsity Cheerleader, and Miss Shamrock 1978. After graduation from Florida State University in Tallahassee in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology, Janice Huff began her meteorology career as weekend meteorologist at WTVC-TV, Chattanooga, TN (1982-1983). She honed her skills as meteorologist/science reporter at WRBL-TV, Columbus, GA (1983-1987), and as on-air meteorologist at KSDK, St. Louis, MO (1987-1991).
