Remembering The Emanuel Nine

A decade ago, the Emanuel Nine—beloved members of “Mother Emanuel”—were gunned down in cold blood as they offered hospitality to a stranger during their June 17th Bible study. However, Cynthia Hurd, Susie Jackson, Ethel Lance, Rev. DePayne Middleton Doctor, Tywanza Sanders, Rev. Daniel Simmons, Sr., Rev. Clementa C. Pinckney, Rev. Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, and Myra Thompson were far more than victims; they were vibrant individuals, dedicated to their communities, faith, and families. Today, their memory lives on in the stories of their loved ones and as a poignant reminder to us all of the evil of hate and the resilient power of forgiveness and hope. As we remember the Emanuel Nine, we honor their lasting legacy of love by answering the call to continue their work of unity and healing in a divided world.
